The MLAN Tester is a free communication test tool designed to 
communicate with Maguire Weigh Scale Blenders 4 or 12 software, Maguire
LIW and Maguire LPD Dryers using MLAN Protocol commands or Modbus 
(WSB only). The MLAN Tester is able to send and receive commands 
over Serial or Ethernet.

Modbus Polling Interval and simultaneous open connections:
Recommended Modbus Polling Interval: greater than 500ms, 1000ms optimal
Recommended simultaneous open connections to port 502: 4 simultaneous open connections

Using the MLAN Tester:

1. Set the I.D. number in the WSB, LIW, LPD controller.
   (For RGS, refer to the RGS manual)
   Press *22222 (default password), then *66.  Set the
   I.D. number to a value between 001 and 254.

2. For Ethernet communication, set an Ethernet IP address in the
   controller.  Refer to the WSB, LIW or LPD manual for specific 
   instructions on how to set the IP address.

3. Connect cabling.  For serial, a direct straight through serial 
   cable can be attached between the PC and the controller.  Serial
   can also pass through a Maguire G2-SA or MLAN-SA signal amplifier.

4. Open the MLAN Tester.

5. Enter the Controller Address.

6. Select the correct Firmware for your controller or select Modbus for
   Modbus TCP testing. For more about Modbus TCP, see below.
   (RGS, MGF use WSB12/12 Software)

7. Select the COM Type, Serial or Ethernet.

   If Serial was selected, select the COM Port of the computer and the 
   baud rate (1200 baud is the default baud rate for all controllers).

   If Ethernet was selected, enter the I.P. address of the controller
   and the Port Number. Port 9999 is the default Ethernet port of 
   Ethernet enabled Maguire controllers.  Port 4001 is the default port
   for G2-ES converters.  Modbus TCP uses port 502.

8. Press Open.  This will open the Port to the controller. If the port 
   will not open, verify your settings.

9. For MLAN select a command to send from the dropdown menu located next 
   to the Send button.  Depending on the command selected, additional option
   may be presented below in the area labeled MLAN Command Settings.
   
   For Modbus select "Function Code 03 - Read Holding Registers". NOTE: All
   WSB, LIW, MGF, Flexbus and Flexbus Lite controllers use Holding Registers.
   For Modbus and the VBD select the appropriate register type per the Maguire
   Modbus Register Mapping spreadsheet.  Enter the Start Address and the number
   of registers you want to read.  For more on Modbus including writing to 
   Modbus, see below.  

   NOTE: the "4" in the Modbus register number is assumed and should not be entered 
   into the "First Reg" field. So to enter 40001, enter 0001. For 43101 enter 3101. 

10. Press Send.  A new window will open with the results of the command
    sent to the controller.  If the command returns "Timed out", then 
    the command failed.  Verify your settings and try again.



MODBUS TCP 

   NOTE: the "4" in the Modbus register number is assumed and should not be entered 
   into the "First Reg" field. So to enter 40001, enter 0001. For 43101 enter 3101.

For writing writing multiple modbus registers select:
Function Code 10 - Write Multiple Holding Registers

Write multiple registers by using multiple numbers, separated by spaces, in
the Register Value field.

Settings are maximum 3 digits 0 to 999 (example 1, 10, 100)

Types are 0, 1, 2, 3 (off, Regrind, Natural, Additive)

Examples:

Turns on all hoppers:
500 400 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 1 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 3 3

Turns off all but the first 3 hoppers:
500 400 100 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 2 2 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0

Hopper type and setting must be set to zero (0) if turning off the hopper.

Click Send to send the registers.


Example:

Write multiple registers by using multiple values separated by spaces in the 
Register Value field. For example if you want to change REG/NAT/COL/ADD settings, 
use the Write Multiple Holding Registers. Starting at register 111 and in the 
register value write (without quotes) 200 100 50 35.  That should set registers 111-114.

That should set registers 111-114.

Troubleshooting:  MLAN Tester Will Not Run:

Right click the MLAN Tester, 
Choose properties, then Compatiblity Mode.  
Select Windows 2000.  Click Apply, Ok.
Run the MLAN Tester

MLAN and Modbus TCP communications to specific Maguire products.
